Time flies when English is spoken

With the exception of my several month "vacation" I do believe this is the longest I have gone without a post.  Many of you have asked why (oh i love you my little blog fiends) and to be honest there are a few reasons.

1.)  This is not Bulgaria, bad stuff does not happen to me everyday.

As I reread some of my blogs I realize just how many things went WRONG while I was over there...I mean come on grape jelly??  Man those were tough times (the jelly I have now has pictures of strawberries and it is squeezable...im oh so grown)

this isn't me obviously because she is....eating grape jelly

2.)  This is not Bulgaria, I can talk to people and they can respond.

While it was entertaining to see all the blank stares and confused faces when I would speak english to those in the Balkans, it is nice that someone can actually tell me where I can find the latest Ke$ha CD (It's for my brother he loves her music).  But seriously talking and interacting with the fans and my teammates has been great.  I have been able to hang out with them off the court and meet new people as we venture into the city every now and then.

3.)  This is not Bulgaria.

Just wanted to reiterate that one more time.

Ok enough of that, now here is what HAS happened in the 2 weeks or so.

We have had 3 games in that stretch with 2 of them being against top teams in our league.  I played pretty well in the second one scoring 10 points and 8 rebounds but we could not get a win as we fell to Norrkopping (Pronounced Nor-shupping).

Losing those two games was a tough pill to swallow because regardless of whatever excuse I could come up with on wh I wasnt playing great (I had just gotten there, i was still learning, the sun was in my eye, the devil made me do it and so on and so forth) the fact of the matter was I just wasnt doing enough to help our team win.

Our next game we played against 08 Stockholm.  This was a game that was a must win for us because we just dropped 2 in a row and this team was lower in the standings.

It was time to kick it up a notch...

My man Joe

Logi Gunnarsson showin me some love

Shout out to the photographer for all these great photos...

After a game with huge point swings for both sides we came up with the victory 83-78.  Thanks to the help of my teammates who put me in great positions to score I had a team high 19 points and 8 rebounds.  That win seemed to help us gel a little more as we figure out how we all fit together on the 94' long hardwood (ay yo).

Our next game was to be played against LF Basket a team that sat 2nd in our league and had only lost once at home.  If there was ever a place to get a win to boost team moral it would be here.  With our Captain Leslie coming back from injury we seemed to be one step closer to having all the pieces we needed to make a serious run in the league.  The game starts...

Annnnnd we find ourselves down 23 points.....

So much for that....

Enter Logi Gunnarsson.

Our veteran point guard decided it was time for us to stop watching the game and actually play.  With 9 straight points we go to halftime with a 14 point deficit and a sour taste in our mouths.

But that second half I saw something that I have always longed for in a team.

Fire.

I saw refusal to lose, refusal to quit, angry but focused, vocal but constructive, we were ready to take this game.  We looked at each other and we knew...

It was time to kick it up a notch...

we continued to push and battle and narrow the lead to 10...

then 6....

tie game...

we take the lead!  But it is quickly taken back and a back and forth battle within the last few minutes ensues.  We find ourselves down one with 25 seconds left and the ball for the shot.  Do or die time.

Ball is entered to William Walker on the right side of the basket.  He backs down his man...one dribble...two..turns pump fakes...bumps him...fade away shot...

oh the suspense ;-)

GOOD!! With 7.6 seconds we find ourselves up 1 and defending.  We stop there last ditch effort to score and beat LF Basket 86-85.  I finished the game with 17 points and 4 rebounds and a feeling that I was beginning to gel with the team here in Solna.

After the game we relaxed and talked for awhile.  One of my teammates Alex and I decided to go and find something to eat....

I almost didn't make it.

I remember before I came here I said, "Im excited to experience true cold."

Dude SHUT UP....

It was colder than getting dissed by Britney in 7th grade when I asked her to be my girlfriend...

(I wrote her a note it said...

Will you go out with me?

Yes           Maybe                No (Yes)

She ripped it up in front of the class...I'm over it...sort of...)

I literally never wanna experience that type of weather again.

On the way to the airport we picked up a paper to see what they wrote about the game.  (Lulea, the city where LF is located, is very serious about their basketball)  In the paper I notice that I see my name.  The article is in Swedish so I asked one of my teammates what it meant....

What was translated should never have been told to me....

"Adam Constantine has the coolest style in the league."

...

As if my head wasn't big enough already...

The beast is now awake....

I believe you have seen him before...

Time to kick it up a notch...

And with that, we are caught up to today.  Our next game is another big home game Sunday at 6 against Sodertalje pronounced (Sod-uh-tail-yuh) who sits 3rd in our league.  You can watch the play by play at www.solnavikings.se   There are some of the games that will be broadcast on the internet and when I find that out I will let everyone know.  Until then..

Hall Kaften!!!

wait that means shut up never mind...

Ajdรถ!!!

As We Proceed...

Well as many of you know I have safely arrived in Sweden for my potential four month stay on the Solna, Vikings.  Here is what I have been hearing from almost everyone i have spoken to since being here.

"Wow Sweden must be really great!"

"Man, you must love it over there!!"

"OMG thats sooo awesommmmeeee I know you have to love it there"

Everyone assumes that I am so happy here and that this place is so great and filled with wonder and excitement.  Well if I may take a second to address those who have assumed that...

Oh how right you are...

So far Sweden is absolutely wonderful.  It is modern enough to feel like the states but it has its own unique feel to it.  The people are very friendly and.....

speak.....

ENGLISH!!!!!

I gotta tell you not only do they speak english but they sounds better and know more vocabulary than some of my former teammates (I could be really hateful and list the names, but I'm in a good mood)

Unfortunately for you the reader my flight was pretty uneventful, sat by some very nice people, had some nice conversations.  Got off the plane at 7am Stockholm time (6hrs ahead of EST)  and headed outside.

BAM!!!!

Did I just get slapped in the face???

Oh...this must be the cold everyone has been talking about...

I was expecting cold...but it is colder than an eskimo's love life out here.  Im really not sure what I'm gonna do about that.

Practice has gone well and we have had one game so far.  My teammates and I are going through the usual process of getting used to a new player.  We played one of the top teams in the league and lost by 3 points.  I had a fast start with six in the first half but sadly my point total would go no further than that.  There are things that we did right and wrong in the game but out teams effort was great.  We were on the ground for loose balls and battling on the boards and doing the little things that are tough.  I enjoy this team and the coach.  After a few days of seeing me shoot my coach has already figured out how to improve my free throws!!! (anyone who can do that obviously knows what they are talking about.  Our next game is Tuesday against another top team and hopefully we can correct some of our mistakes and get a win on the road.   Until then!!!

Cobwebs

Well it is now officially a new year..2011...we now have less than two years till the end of the world!!!

Ok that's a horrible way to start my first blog in 4 months...lets move on...

There are many things that I have done since my absence from cyberspace.  I reacquainted myself with American food (I liked the scales better when they were in kilograms...at least i could pretend not to know what it was), watched my Elon Phoenix play for the first time from the sidelines (well freshman year was from the sidelines too...but lets not get nasty), I traveled from Greensboro to to DC to New York, and I grew a beard (for pictures go to google and type in 'homeless grizzly bear').

It has been an enjoyable time for me to be around my family and friends during one of my harder times of my career, and while I have enjoyed the wonderful food and everything else this place has to offer, I still wistfully waited for the day when I could get back out on the court for a team.  I would watch as my Elon bigs would battle for rebounds, race down the court, get great position in the post (no comment on if they RECIEVED any passes) and pray that our Athletic Director would come up to me and say, "Hey Adam, you know you have another year of eligibility left..heres your jersey."

However I knew I had to bide my time...be patient and understand that my time would come again.  So everyday I made sure I did something to improve my game, whether it was getting u shots, lifting weights, or getting treatment, I stayed busy with the quieter part of the game of basketball.

Now many of you know or have figured it out that I have signed with a team and are anxiously (or apathetically) waiting for me to just spill it already.  Well ESPN and my agent couldnt iron out the details of what was going to be the smash program of "THE DECISION: What time is it? CONSTANTINE!" (they said something about it being a failed experiment they tried before?  Not sure what they mean...)So I guess my blogspace will have to do.

I have decided to take my talents to South Beach...where my connecting flight will take me to Sweden to play for the Solna Vikings. (By the way LeBron...if you ever read this...my bad dude i just wanted to get a few laughs...im on your side I PROMISE)

http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=SWE&Team=1030

The Vikings are located in Solna, Sweden and are in the top Swedish Basketball league.  Currently sitting in 6th place in a tightly contested league I am being brought in at a crucial time of the season.  This is a great scenario for a number of reasons.

1.)  The Coach AND all the players speak english!!!
-Never will I think getting cussed out in english the worst thing ever....getting cussed out when you dont know you are getting cussed out is much worse.

Ahhh....English...

2.)  2 > 1
-This team has another american on the team.  Maybe I'll have a hustlin' partner in crime who knows? (see 'Proud to be an American)

They're so happy and...American..

3.) For those wondering about the season it is in full swing, so I will jump right in and play....this means one

crucial

thing

NO MORE MOUNTAINS!!!!!!!!

Glad I can leave all my climbing gear at home

I really dont care how funny that story was...ill take not running it over running it and YOU laughing about it.....just practices and games....glorious. (for the story see: All while having to pee)

So with that...it sums up most of my 2010 and throws us right into 2011.  A new team, in a new country.

One final note, I cant tell you how much it has meant to hear you guys tell me you are reading this and how it makes you laugh till you cry or cry till you laugh...thank you.  If it ever get lame let me know (not saying anything will change cuz its MY blog...dang).  Either way I'm glad I shook the cobwebs off of this, the next blog will be from Solna, Sweden!

Until then...
